How we work
Four stages, one engineer
Every Subnet Works engagement follows the same structure: a call, an optional written assessment, scoped implementation, and defined ongoing support. The same engineer runs all four stages.
-
Initial call
30 minutes. Free.
The goal is to understand what you are running, what hurts, and whether Subnet Works is the right fit. There is no deliverable from this call and no obligation to proceed. A brief written summary may follow if the scope warrants it.
Come prepared to describe your current environment: hardware, OS, key services, and the problem you need solved. The more specific, the more useful the call.
-
Scoped assessment Optional. Paid.
One to two days. Starting at $350. Written report.
For environments that need a structured look before any implementation work begins, Subnet Works conducts a paid assessment. Onsite or remote depending on access requirements.
What the report covers
- Network topology documentation
- Security posture review
- Capacity and performance analysis
- Documentation gaps and risks
- Prioritized remediation list with cost and complexity estimates
The assessment report is yours regardless of whether further work proceeds with Subnet Works.
-
Implementation
Scoped in writing. Fixed-fee or hourly.
All implementation work is scoped in writing before a single change is made. Scope covers what will be done, what will not be done, the timeline, and the billing structure. If something unexpected changes the scope mid-engagement, a written change order precedes the additional work.
Standard practices
- Change windows agreed with the client in advance
- All configurations documented during the engagement
- Rollback plan identified before any production change
- Post-implementation verification against agreed criteria
- No surprise invoices
-
Ongoing support
Retainer or per-incident.
After implementation, two options are available. Per-incident billing at project rates covers one-off support needs. A monthly retainer provides a defined block of hours with rollover and a committed response window for infrastructure incidents.
All documentation is handed over at the end of each engagement so a future successor can pick up cleanly. Subnet Works does not create lock-in through proprietary tooling or withheld documentation.
The direct engagement model
The same engineer starts, finishes, and supports every engagement. There is no account manager between you and the person doing the work, no internal handoffs, and no queue. If something is not working, you contact the engineer who built it.

The first call is 30 minutes and free. Bring the problem and we will work out the rest.
